Stopped by Target in Independence today on my way to a customer visit. I kindly asked the employee stocking in the area about the 2 DCPI's showing him the Aisle - N/A Stockroom - Yes. He pulled out his handy micro gun and typed in the first DCPI # and informed me that they were in the back but wouldn't be put on the shelf until the 25th ! No big deal as this may be a good point to stop my Star Wars collecting anyway. |

I did'nt know about manufacturer allotments. Pretty annoying to have to wait on stores to realize they need to refill product locations. is it once or twice a week they check locations?
And even after that explanation, its still a cluster-f-ck. |
Ah yes, the location question. Good question. Every missing item on a shelf is checked every day at every store. Sales from items are tallied in an accumulating "ticker" and then get generated every two hours. These items are then removed from locations in the stockroom and worked to the sales floor. However, every location in the stockroom can get audited or hit at any given time....for example, annual inventories, department-specific inventories, purges--or trips to the stockroom and empty out all locations for working in merchandise in non-planogrammed (or modular for you Wal*Mart folks) areas. Plenty of checks in the higher volume stores--rest assured. The next question would be around how often are the out-of-stock items are replenished. The outs are replenished after the counts are accurate (which can be once or ten times a week--but AT LEAST once a week during a research process). The warehouse gets its notification of a need to fill item at that point. A lot of times, what happens is that the items are out at the warehouse. Excuse? No, reality. (kind of a side bit-- I mentioned in a different thread that I buy my cases from wholesalers, usually. I asked on the thread if any other posters here buy wholesale and if they have not gotten an order filled. I've gotten burned only a couple of times---twice with the same order of Gentle Giant busts and once with a 3-case order from Hasbro. I was annoyed and feared second-market prices but I understood that the wholesaler did not get shipments. I called him out on it over the phone and he 'splained the whole thing to me. I understood better from a wholesale perspective how Hasblow rolls. |

Yeah Dave, I understand you gotta take your company's back, but lets just get real dude, the way they treat adults who are there to buy items that are designed for 8 year olds is pretty poor. I have been bitched out before by Target employees because I asked for them to sell me product which they had in the back, but because they want to be "fair" they won't stock empty shelves.
I hear you on wholesaling, but xxxcomic store is NOT going to have a fraction of the pull that a retailer like Target does, they order tons because they have lots of stores, so they and Wally world get first priority from the Hasblo.
You can try to honestly explain this all away with how business is done, but the mantra is the customer is supposed to be right, because without the customer, you got no store, so when a Target employee or even manager goes off on me over a product, whether it is milk, pants or toys just kills any credibility that Target has. They want to discriminate against a certain crowd because they might exhibit Wal-mart styled behaviour over a car, or figure. That is bullshit man. The product is there to be sold, if they don't want people asking about items in the back, then take away the scanners that sit all over the place, and if that cannot happen because of customer service, then the company should give that service to EVERYONE, pure and simple. Or don't carry those items in the store. There is no excuse making to be done Dave, you cannot make your company look good on this. For the record, Dave was always very nice and helpful when I spoke to him in his store, but sadly Dave SOOOOOOOOO many others are not like you because they don't see both sides and the general term customer service doesn't mean anything to them, because it really doesn't matter if you are spending 6.99 or 699.00 in the store, customer is supposed to be a customer. _________________

Thanks for all the details dxdave. I appreciate it.
And for the record, I never ask employees to bring anything out of the back or to restock anything, no matter what store it is. I've found its just not worth my time and effort, I eventually find everything I want sooner or later.
With the exception of the VOTC Stormtrooper. The "second assortment" of that line was a hard grab, seems it mostly showed up at TRU, and those figures were cherry picked CONSTANTLY. Not that I blame anyone, its a great figure and around here, hard to come by. Some little asswipe from CA on RS insulted me for cleaning up Sandtroopers because I could'nt come up with VOTC's locally. |
